3D Hybrid Numerical Model of Residual Stresses: Numerical—Sensitivity to Cutting Parameters When Turning 15-5PH Stainless Steel

چکیده

This paper investigates the residual stresses induced by a longitudinal turning operation in 15-5PH martensitic stainless steel. An experimental investigation has quantified sensitivity of to cutting speed, feed, tool geometry and flank wear. In parallel, 3D hybrid model, previously developed, been applied each case study. modelling approach consists replacing tooling chipping equivalent thermal mechanical loadings. These loadings are moved onto machined surface compute final stress state. It shown that wear have dominant effect on compared speed feed rate. However, influences intensity compressive peak, some extent, whereas affected depth. work also model is able predict stresses, as well parameters, with reasonable agreement.

Stainless steel weld metal designed to mitigate residual stresses

There have been considerable efforts to create welding consumables which on solid state phase transformation partly compensate for the stresses which develop when a constrained weld cools to ambient temperatures. All of these efforts have focused on structural steels which are ferritic. In the present work, alloy design methods have been used to create a stainless steel welding consumable which...

Design optimization of cutting parameters for turning of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel using Taguchi method

In the present work Taguchi method is used to optimize cutting parameters during dry turning of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel with AlTiCrN coated tool. The coating was deposited on fine-grained K-grade (ISO K-20) cemented carbide cutting insert using physical vapor deposition (PVD) technique. The turning parameters evaluated are cutting speed of 200 and 260 m/min, feed rate of 0.20 and 0....

Surface Residual Stresses in Dry Turning of 0.45% C Steel

Residual stresses in a surface layer determine many exploitation characteristics of machined surface. Depending on their kind and the type of applied loading, the influence of residual stresses can be negative or positive. Tensile residual stresses usually exert highly detrimental impact on several functional aspects such as strength, fatigue life, corrosion, wear resistance, etc., whereas comp...

Numerical simulation of transient temperature and residual stresses in friction stir welding of 304L stainless steel

Three-dimensional nonlinear thermal and thermo-mechanical numerical simulations are conducted for the friction stir welding (FSW) of 304L stainless steel. The finite element analysis code—WELDSIM, developed by the authors specifically for welding simulation, was used. Two welding cases with tool rotational speeds of 300 and 500 rpm are analyzed. The objective is to study the variation of transi...

Study Of Thermally Induced Residual Stresses For Stainless Steel Grade Using GMAW Process

Welding is a reliable and effective metal fabrication process which is widely used in industries. High heating at a one location during welding and further rapid cooling generates residual stress and distortion in the weld and base metal. In last few decades various research efforts have been directed towards the control of welding process parameter aiming at reducing residual stress and distor...
